Sporting CP have signed Pedro Porro on a permanent transfer from Manchester City with a €20M buy-back clause.
Porro may not be a name familiar to too many fans, though he has been on Manchester City’s books since 2019. The 22-year-old joined City from Girona in a deal the Mirror reported was worth £11m. Girona’s majority owners are City Football Group.
The Spaniard – who can operate in a number of positions on the right side – was immediately loaned to Real Valladolid upon signing.
He returned to Man City the year after, though did not make a single first-team appearance before being shipped out on loan again. Portugal was his destination this time, with a two-year stint at Sporting Lisbon agreed.
Almost two years on and Porro is thriving in Portugal. He has played right-back, wing-back and right midfield in Lisbon and has five goals and seven assists to his name this season.
It was reported in March that Sporting were working to use their €8.5M buy option on Pedro Porro and are closing in on his signature.
It has now been made official now that Sporting CP have signed Pedro Porro on a permanent transfer from Manchester City.
A previous report from Record in Portugal had confirmed Sporting triggered an €8.5M buy option, a €45M release clause would be in his new deal, while City does have a small positive as it will have a €20M buy-back clause.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has also Confirmed the €20M buy back clause for Pedro Porro, with the player’s release clause being €45M for all other clubs.
The news was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
