Manchester City superfan Noel Gallagher was left “covered in blood” celebrating Ilkay Gundogan’s title-winning strike.
Things looked to be going Liverpool’s way when Matty Cash and Philippe Coutinho gave Villa a 2-0 lead. However, Pep Guardiola’s Blues were not to be denied.
The Sky Blues needed five minutes of magic to overturn Villa’s lead and make sure the Premier League trophy took its place in the City cabinet this season.
Ilkay Gundogan gave City hope in the 76th minute before a fine strike by Rodri sent the Etihad Stadium into raptures. But the best was yet to come as Gundogan scored to complete the turnaround with just nine minutes of normal time remaining.
And it was even pandemonium in the private boxes as Gallagher was accidentally smashed into by Ruben Dias’ dad.
Joao Dias headbutted the 54-year-old, who was knocked to the floor and ended up with a cut lip and two black eyes that required treatment.
Gallagher told talkSPORT: “Let me tell you what happened to me yesterday. As the third goal goes in, there is absolute bedlam in the stadium. Where we sit, Ruben Dias’ family are a couple of boxes up. I’m jumping around like an idiot, passing my son around like the Premier League trophy, everyone’s lifting him up.
“I turn around, Ruben Dias’ dad runs straight into me, headbutts me, I’m on the floor, covered in blood. I don’t see the last two minutes, I’ve got to get taken down by St John’s Ambulance to get stitched up.”
“I’ve got stitches in my top lip, two black eyes. As I’m going down the corridor, Pep is running up crying and we hug each other. If you saw me today, I look like I’ve just arrived home from the eighties at Elland Road, I look like I’ve had my head smashed in. It’s unbelievable.”
And to be fair, what a way to ring in your team winning the league than stitches from a defender’s dad headbutting you?
“Lots of City fans are asking me what happened and I’m just saying, ‘You’ll never guess’. There’s not a mark on [Dias’ dad]. He’s a big bear of a man. He almost knocked my teeth out.”
These Noel Gallagher’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
