Gary Neville have mocked Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on Twitter after the Anfield club missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City, and has reminded them of what Manchester United achieved back in 1999.
Things looked to be going Liverpool and Carragher’s way when Matty Cash and Philippe Coutinho gave Villa a 2-0 lead. However, Pep Guardiola’s Blues were not to be denied.
Ilkay Gundogan gave City hope in the 76th minute before a fine strike by Rodri sent the Etihad Stadium into raptures. But the best was yet to come as Gundogan scored to complete the turnaround with just nine minutes of normal time remaining.
The goals were needed in the end to lift the title as Liverpool ended up 3-1 victors thanks to late goals from Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson. Despite his allegiances to Manchester United, Neville could not help but joke at Carragher’s expense.
The Former England international defender has reminded Liverpool today that they could not match them. Manchester United won the Premier League title, the FA Cup and the Champions League back in 1999.

Also during the game, as Gundogan tapped home Kevin De Bruyne’s cross to make the score 3-2 to City, Neville belted out on Sky Sports commentary: ” It’s unbelievable, De Bruyne, the class. But Ilkay Gundogan, you little dancer!.”
This was, of course, in reference to Carragher’s moment of jubilation when Salah scored late on against Tottenham Hotspur back in 2019. The former Liverpool defender screamed: “Mo Salah, you little dancer.” At the time, Neville joked that Carragher came across as a ‘local fan’ on commentary that night.
“It’s a mesmerising finish to this game and to this season, honestly. Gundogan celebrates, but Kevin de Bruyne, you are absolute class.’ Neville added.
“Well, Pep Guardiola can’t cope. That shot of him crying just says it all. An incredible football season. Congratulations to Manchester City. Congratulations to Liverpool.
“Head-to-head all the way through to the end. Non-stop. Relentless and brilliant – you won’t get many better seasons than that.”
