Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that he would like midfielder Ilkay Gundogan to stay at the club beyond this season.
Since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund, Ilkay Gundogan has been a constant feature in the Manchester City team and just last season, he was the teams leading goalscorer in the Premier League.
Gundogan is an important part of Pep Guardiola’s team, keeping the team ticking with his passing ability and popping up with key goals when needed.
The 31-year-old’s future has recently been questioned, with one report claiming that the Citizens have told him to find a new club this summer.
Gundogan has since been linked with the likes of Barcelona and Arsenal, but Guardiola is unaware of these rumours and insists that he is keen to keep hold of the Germany international.
“If you ask me personally, I want [Gundogan] next season. There is no-one thinking he cannot be here,” Guardiola told reporters on Friday.
“If he wants to leave, as a club we don’t know it. All the Twitter accounts saying he will leave, I don’t know. Maybe you know more than me.”
These Guardiola’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
