Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola’s side are ‘top of the list’ to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder, Matheus Nunes this summer.
On Tuesday, City confirmed they have agreement for the summer transfer of Haaland from Borussia Dortmund – sealing the signing of one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers.
Now, reports claim Guardiola is in pole position to sign another promising player. With Fernandinho returning to Brazil this summer, Pep Guardiola is having to mull over his central options.
According to newspaper A Bola, City are ‘top of the list’ to sign Nunes, who will only leave Portugal for a club challenging for elite silverware.
Guardiola’s interest in the playmaker was said to be piqued during their Champions League Last 16 encounter earlier this year. He even called Nunes ‘one of the best players in the world today‘.
But despite naming the Premier League side as the main contender for his signing, A Bola doesn’t seem to know how advanced this pursuit is, or even how much it would take to sign the midfielder this summer.
The 23-year-old helped Sporting to the Portuguese title last year and has played in every single league game this term. He’s netted four times and assisted five more this time around, and is a game away from reaching 100 games for his employers.
A marvellous ball-carrier, the starlet completes more dribbles per 90 than any Sporting player on average and completes the second-most through balls every game behind forward Pablo Sarabia (WhoScored).
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from Man City supporters.

“They must see something that assures them he can develop greatly behind Rodri. Still seems a bit raw, but I would trust in the scouts and coaches to do what they do best. Seems like a modest/cheap option, which would allow City to invest elsewhere (fullback).”
