‘Big ups to our Captain’, ‘gonna miss his leadership’ – Man City fans react as Fernandinho decide to return to the only club he played for in Brazil

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Fernandinho has decided to return to Brazilian club, Athletico Paranaense at the end of the season.

The defensive midfielder has been at the Etihad since 2013. He has made 382 appearances for the club so far and helped them to win a host of trophies. His honours include four Premier League titles, one FA Cup and six EFL Cups.

The 37-year-old, whose contract with Pep Guardiola’s side expires this summer, is now set to leave the club as a free agent and return to his home country.

According to Journalist Jorge Nicola as relayed by Sport Witness, Fernandinho has decided to return to Athletico Paranaense, the only club he played for in Brazil.

As per the Journalist, Brazilian clubs, one from the state of São Paulo and another from Rio Grande do Sul, recently got in touch to find out their chances of signing the player, but Fernandinho’s agent, however, told both sides that he’s decided to return to Athletico Paranaense.

Jorge Nicola claims he got in touch with an Athletico official, who didn’t want to say anything, so he wouldn’t ‘expose’ the player before the end of the Premier League season.

Last year, before signing a one-year contract extension at Manchester City, Fernandinho had already opened talks with Athletico for a return, before deciding it would be best to stay in England.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
