Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report of the club’s interest in Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni during this summer’s transfer window.
The 22-year-old has been in impressive form for his Ligue 1 outfit during the 2021-22 campaign, making 41 appearances in all competitions, contributing three goals and two assists in the process.
The midfielder still has more than two years left to run on his contract with Monaco, but the club are expected to find it difficult to keep hold of him in the upcoming market.
Tchouameni has been linked with a host of clubs in recent months, and according to Mike McGrath at the Telegraph, Manchester City are among the many clubs who admire Aurélien Tchouaméni at AS Monaco.
With Fernandinho out of contract at the end of the season, City are scouring the market for potential replacements, the €40m-rated Ligue 1 star has been earmarked by McGrath as a potential option.
However, as per the report, the France international’s asking price will be high and they do not want to eat into their budget for striker target Erling Haaland, the club’s top priority in the coming window.
Earlier this week, renowned Spanish source, Marca, reported that Real Madrid have been trying to reach an agreement with Aurelien, with the likes of Liverpool and Man United to have made contact and asked about signing the Monaco star.
Tchouameni, who can effectively play in the defensive and central midfield roles, has scored six times and registered six assists in 86 appearances for Monaco since arriving at Stade Louis II from Bordeaux in January 2020.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters – here are some of the best responses.

“Why do we need to buy a Ferna replacement when Romeo Lavia exists and plays for us already? Ferna extends one more year, Lavia slowly integrated into the squad more. Come 2023/24 he’ll be ready to be Rodri’s backup.”
