Michael Oliver will take charge of the upcoming Manchester derby this weekend, the Premier League has announced.
Man United, who currently occupy the final Champions League berth, will be hoping to get back to winning ways after being held to a goalless draw by relegation-threatened Watford at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
Manchester City, who must first contend with their FA Cup fourth-round tie against Championship side Peterborough United on Tuesday, will be looking to do the double over local rivals Manchester United.
City extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to six points last weekend with a narrow 1-0 win over Everton, and will be looking to continue winning to retain the title for a second time under Pep Guardiola.
Ahead of the meeting at Etihad Stadium, the Premier League have announced that Michael Oliver, who took charge of November’s meeting at Old Trafford, will take charge of Manchester City’s Premier League meeting with United on Sunday evening.
Oliver was last in charge of the Premier League champions in November, when he was in charge for Manchester City’s 2-1 win over West Ham at the Etihad Stadium.
The 37-year-old, who has refereed 312 Premier League matches entering the upcoming clash, has taken charge of 31 games so far this season, showing 101 yellow cards and six red cards.
Joining Michael at the Etihad Stadium this weekend will be assistant referees Simon Bennett and Scott Ledger while VAR official is Stuart Atwell and Andy Madley the fourth official for Sunday’s match.
The news was shared on Twitter by City Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
