'Yessss', 'A worthy El Mago replacement', 'here to take over' - Man City fans delighted with James McAtee extension

Manchester City have confirmed a new long-term contract for in-demand midfield starlet James McAtee.

McAtee was of course subject of many bids this winter from Rangers and Championship and Premier League sides all wanting him, but opted to remain in Manchester and has now committed his immediate future to City.

The 19-year-old, who hails from Salford and joined the City Academy at the age of 11, has agreed a three-year extension, agreeing to a deal which keeps him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2026.

McAtee told his club’s website: “This is a really proud moment in my career, and I am so grateful to the Club for showing their faith in me.

“I’ve been here since I was 11 and I can’t thank everyone enough for everything they have done for me.

“I have worked with some brilliant coaches in the Academy, who have put me in a position to be able to train and play with Pep Guardiola and the first team, which is all I’ve ever wanted to do.

“I’ve been really pleased with my progress this season and I am sure I am in the right place to keep improving, so it feels amazing to know I will be a Manchester City player for another four years.”

In reaction to the news, Man City fans have been sharing their thoughts and opinions, with many delighted by the news James McAtee had committed his immediate future with the club.

I think it’s the exact right call from McAtee. He could have understandably pushed for a loan/move if he wanted, but he’s trusted the club. I hope now he gets a show of faith too in terms of potential minutes here and there. It’d be a fitting reward for his patience IMO.
