Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has joked that he is Ironman after being forced to retire from football last year, opening up on his heart issue while playing for Barcelona.
The City all time goalscorer saw his hugely successful career cut short due to a heart issue which saw him withdraw from a game with chest pains.
Aguero took around three months off after the incident to investigate the issue before being advised to call it a day at the age of 33.
The veteran striker announced the news at a press conference in front of fans and teammates at Camp Nou, and it was a heartbreaking scene.
The Argentine International has reflected on the Alaves incident, saying he was initially calm after being substituted but soon realised his situation was far more serious after arriving at hospital.
“When it happened (when Aguero had difficulties in breathing on the pitch against Alaves), I thought it was nothing and that it was going to be fine,” Aguero said in a recent Twitch live stream.
“But when I got to the hospital and they left me in a small room alone with a bunch of monitors around me, I realized something was wrong And after two days in the hospital, I started to get nervous.”
Aguero went further to delivered a hilarious verdict joking he now looks like Ironman
“I have a chip here [his chest]. At night I throw coloured lights, I’m Ironman!. I have a chip, crazy, I’m straight. And if it speeds up, it jumps to the doctor,” he said.
These Aguero’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
