Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club is ready to hand a new one-year contract to Fernandinho.
An indisputable fact remains that ever since Fernandinho’s arrival at Manchester City in 2013, the Brazilian has rightly etched his name as one of the Premier League’s greatest ever defensive midfielders.
The 36-year-old Brazilian midfielder, who has spent the last eight and a half years with the Citizens, signed a one-year contract extension in the summer, which is due to expire in June 2022.
While the ageing midfielder may be past his unparalleled best, he continues to remain a stellar operator, as showcased by his dominant display at Carrow Road last weekend.
According to an exclusive report by Paul Hirst via Times Sport, Man City plan to hold contract talks with Fernandinho at the end of the season, and appear open to him staying for another campaign.
The report states that Man City will leave it up to him to decide if he wants to carry on playing or take up another role within City Football Group.
Pep Guardiola is keen to keep the Brazilian midfielder at the club, and the Premier League champions could offer him a coaching role in addition to a one-year contract to sweeten the deal.
The report claims Fernandinho believes his body can withstand the rigours of playing Premier League football for at least one more year, and is capable of starting games on a regular basis.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
I love you so much Dinho but hang the boots up or accept that you can’t play as much anymore

He’s still good offensively but defensively he can’t keep up.

We all love you legend. But we saw in many games you started that you don’t have the legs for 90 minutes.

He’s done a job when called upon this year. If him and Pep agree then no one can really disagree.

If we’re being honest here, he isn’t that same player anymore. The mentality has always been spot on, but you can see the legs are going. https://t.co/zHYrB2mDhU
