Manchester City fans have been hailing Kevin De Bruyne following his performance against Chelsea, helping Pep Guardiola’s side to open up a 13-point lead at the top of the Premier League.
It was a game regarded as one Chelsea had to win as City are unlikely to drop many points for the rest of the season.
De Bruyne broke Chelsea’s resistance 20 minutes from time at the Etihad Stadium when the Belgium midfielder escaped N’Golo Kante and bent a perfectly-placed shot into the far corner of Kepa Arrizabalaga’s goal from 20 yards.
De Bruyne had a hangover from two injuries in the summer and suffered from Covid but possesses the ingenuity to unlock the very best. His work rate and pressing had been excellent
The captain was amongst some of the best chances in the first half. He made a great run to create a huge opportunity and had a punt at goal but it was easily caught by Kepa.
He continued to be reliable in the set-pieces and put in a pin point free kick. De Bruyne added more great kicks as he forced Kepa to make a huge save from a free kick.
‘De Bruyne’s individual quality made the difference,’ Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel said.
The Belgian, whose powers had waned slightly earlier in the year, looks ready to direct City towards more silverware.
On social media, City fans were speechless over his goal and overall display against Chelsea on Saturday.
Here’s what some City supporters had to say on Twitter about the midfielder’s display against their Premier League rivals…
