Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has refused to be drawn on speculation linking Ferran Torres with a move to Barcelona
The Cityzens only signed Torres in the summer of 2020 and signed him up to a five-year contract but, Barcelona are looking to tempt him away from the Etihad as soon as the January transfer window and Torres would be open to a move.
Torres has emerged as a transfer target for Barca in recent days and the Spanish giants have reportedly reached an agreement with the youngster over a transfer.
Barcelona’s sporting director and CEO were in Manchester last week and visited City’s training facility, while their vice-president Rafael Yuste subsequently went on record to confirm the club’s interest.
Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo earlier this week claimed Barcelona were stepping up their efforts to secure the services of Torres, and are prepared to propose a part-exchange deal to Manchester City to land him.
Guardiola, who rarely talks about any aspect of the transfer window in his press conferences has refused to comment on the rumours, but he did seem to imply there had been some form of communication between the forward and Barcelona.
“It’s not my business,” the City manager responded during Wednesday’s press conference. “You have to call [City Director of Football] Txiki [Begiristain] for that, or the agent for Ferran Torres, or Barcelona. I’m not the guy to talk about that.
“Our players are so good,” he added, when asked about why other clubs comment on transfer dealings. “Also we call some players from the other clubs when we are interested, so that I completely understand. I cannot control that and it depends on many many things.”
