A lot of Manchester City fans have flooded to Twitter to share their thoughts at the latest transfer claim regarding Benfica’s Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez.
The Uruguay International has been linked with a move away from the Primeira Liga outfit in recent months, with Pep Guardiola’s side believed to be one of the team leading the race for his signature.
The premier champions failed to replace Sergio Aguero earlier this year, increasing the likelihood of a high-profile name arriving at the Etihad Stadium in 2022.
The Cityzens have been recently linked with big money moves for Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, but a move for either player could trigger a world record fee, with City reportedly eyeing other options ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Darwin Nunez, contract with Benfica until June 2025, has scored three goals in five Champions League games this season, and also has seven goal contributions from nine games in Liga Bwin.
Indeed, the Uruguayan hitman’s impressive returns have caught the eye of Premier League sides including Manchester City, among some big European teams.
According to Portuguese outlet Record (via Sport Witness), Benfica are set to receive an offer from a ‘great English club’ for the transfer of Darwin Nunez.
The report states that the player’s agent, Edgardo Lasalvia, had meetings with Premier League sides on Thursday to discuss a potential transfer.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
Hopefully it’s not us he’s more of a winger and I would rather Nkunku or vlahovic https://t.co/5DsZWjqMYp

Hope not us. We should go for world class striker not for potential striker. Rather develop torres or delap to be our striker than him
