Yangel Herrera will spend another year in La Liga after agreeing to move to Espanyol for the rest of the 2021/22 season.
Herrera has never played for Manchester City since joining the club in January 2017 from Atletico Venezuela in his homeland. He instantly left on loan to sister club New York City in the MLS. He has been in Spain ever since, first for six months with Huesca and then for the past two seasons with Granada.
With Granada, Herrera reached the quarter-finals of last season’s Europa League, playing against Manchester United. Around that time, there were rumours that he could get a chance elsewhere in the Premier League for the 2021-22 season.
Indeed, it was highly expected that Herrera would leave Manchester for good this summer. The Sun reported that City were listening to offers of £20m for the midfielder, with numerous clubs keen.
The La Liga side posted on their official website that the Venezuelan international had signed for the club for the season. Espanyol is the third Spanish club Herrera has joined on loan from City.
In reaction to the news shared on Twitter by Man City Xtra, many Man City fans have been expressing their thoughts and opinions.
