Sergio Aguero has made his name as one of the world’s best finishers in his decade at Manchester City, but it’s fair to say he was made to look very silly by Edouard Mendy on Saturday.
Man City took the lead just before half time against Chelsea this evening, and they had the chance to effectively put the game to bed as a penalty was awarded deep in injury time.
Sergio Aguero stepped up, but managed to take one of the worst penalties in Premier League history, as he chipped his panenka attempt straight into Edouard Mendy’s arms
Had Aguero scored, he would have equalled Wayne Rooney’s record for most goals for one Premier League club in history.
Aguero is now one of four City players to miss a penalty in league action this season, the Argentine joining Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling.
Sterling actually spared his South American teammate’s blushes just before his blunder from the spot, the English winger firing the ball home from close range after it looked as if Aguero had wasted the chance.
The 32-year-old hasn’t played much this season, due to injury, Covid and form, but got the nod to start with Pep Guardiola potentially holding back his full hand before they face Chelsea in the Champions League final later this month.
In reaction to Aguero’s Panenka penalty shocker shared on Twitter by Man City Xtra, Many City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.
What Is He Doing.

Ah come on mate. You’ve got a real chance to play your way in to the UCL final but shit like that won’t help Pep’s trust in you. Such a poor decision after a pretty good performance.
