Some Manchester City Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays a report that claims the club is ahead of Manchester United in the race of Sporting Lisbon star left-back Nuno Mendes.
Mendes, who has been with Sporting from the age of 10, only made his senior first-team debut under a year ago and has already attracted scouts from elite clubs across the continent.
The 18-year-old Sporting Lisbon’s wonderkid is enjoying an excellent season with the Portuguese giants, with City reportedly considering a move for the left-back ahead of the summer transfer window.
Aleksander Zinchenko, Benjamin Mendy and Joao Cancelo have shared left-back duties at the Etihad this term and City are arguably in greater need of Mendes, given Cancelo’s preferred role is from right-back, but are facing competition from Manchester United.
According to abola via Sport Witness, Manchetser City ‘are ahead of’ Manchester United in the race for Mendes, and have ‘reserved €60M + €10M in variables’ for the 18 year-old.
The report claims that Pep Guardiola considers it ‘essential’ to sign a left-back, and Mendes is gathering ‘greatest consensus’ at Manchester city.
The report adds that as Mendes has made it to Portugal’s squad for EURO 2020, a transfer is ‘unlikely’ to be completed before the start of the UEFA tournament – as it gives the player an opportunity to showcase his qualities at an ‘even more demanding level’.

@OmarBerrada get it done before the Euro.

He's good but the price tag is too much.

Let's sell if we can sell Mendy for a good amount
If he proves himself on one of the biggest stages, than he'll be worth the price tag

If we sign a striker and a left back and possibly a new midfielder we could be back near the 100 point mark next season if this team stays hungry for success.

Very expensive but I see why he is because he’s 18 years old. One of the best talents in the world, playing for Portugal at such a young age. Without injuries he could be our LB for 10-15 years. With Zinny has back up/challenging him for the first team spot.
