Owen Hargreaves has hailed Phil Foden following his performance against Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of Manchester City Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.
Goals from De Bruyne and Phil Foden secured for the premier league leader a 2-1 win over the German club, an advantage heading into the second leg.
While De Bruyne may have stole the limelight in this game, Tuesday’s clash was yet another example of why Foden is one Man City’s most important player.
The England man proved why he has taken teammate’s place in City’s best XI ahead of even Raheem Sterling.
It was a quiet first half for Foden but he still managed to be involved for the goal and really thrived as Dortmund legs tired in the final half-hour.
He tormented the right-back in the second half and could have scored himself but was denied by Hitz on a couple of occasions.
Although he could have done better with the first attempt, he made amends to pop up and score the winner in the 90th minute to City an advantage heading into the second leg.
Owen Hargreaves was highly complimentary of Phil Foden following his goal-scoring performance for City last night, speaking on BT Sport.
He said: “Phil Foden is a joy to watch. Every time he touches the ball, I know there aren’t many fans in the stadium, but there’s oohs and aahs.
“The thing is, if he can just add a bit more of that final moment, Phil Foden is unplayable.”
