Manchester City are reportedly keen to bring Watford’s Ben Foster to the Etihad Stadium to push Ederson during this summer’s transfer window.
The former Manchester United, Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion stopper, who has a contract at Vicarage Road until next June has played 22 times for the Hornets this season as they sealed their return to the Premier League on Saturday.
According to Sun reporter Alan Nixon, Premier League champions-elect Manchester City are casting their eyes away from upcoming superstars and have focused on Watford’s Ben Foster as backup to Brazilian stopper Ederson.
Nixon says that City are looking for veteran cover for Ederson and says that 38-year-old Foster “fits the bill” for the Citizens whilst admitting that he “may take some persuading to move just to sit on the bench.”
The report claims American Zack Steffen may be loaned out for experience after doubts crept in about whether he was ready to come in when top-choice Ederson was missing.
Foster has featured on 364 occasions in the Premier League during spells with Man United, Watford, Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion.
This season, the veteran stopper Foster has made 22 appearances for the Hornets (17 conceded/9 clean sheets) although he hasn’t featured for Xisco’s promoted side since the turn of 2021 and a 2-1 oss away at Swansea City..
