Pep Guardiola has hailed Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland as one of the best young strikers in the game.
The 20-year-old has been linked with a big-money summer move after scoring 32 goals in 35 Bundesliga matches.
With uncertainty over the future of record goalscorer Sergio Aguero, City are expected to look for a new centre-forward in the summer.
Speaking after the quarter-final draw of Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund was confirmed, Pep Guardiola was asked about his thoughts on Erling Haaland and whether he would be interested in signing the player.
“The numbers speak for themselves,” said Guardiola. “Of course he is one of the best strikers in the world right now at his age.
“I saw only a few games – honestly, I didn’t have much time – but I saw the highlights and the numbers in the Champions League and the league are impressive.
“I know the quality of this player and I think everyone knows, but in two weeks I could answer better because I didn’t see much.”
When asked to comment on whether he would be interested in signing the player, who needed just 14 games to become the fastest player to score 20 Champions League goals.
“He’s a player from Dortmund. I don’t like when people talk about our players. You understand I cannot answer this question,” he said.
In reaction to Guardiola’s comments, City fans took to social media, with many begging the club to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker.
We should sign him. 👀
