TalkSPORT host Jason Cundy has hailed Manchester City Resurgent defender John Stones as better than Manchester United’s Harry Maguire following his impressive return to form.
Maguire is currently England’s first-choice centre-back ahead of Stones – but that may change as the defender continued his fantastic resurgence alongside Ruben Dias in the City defence
The England international has struck up a surprising partnership with summer signing Ruben Dias, establishing himself as first choice in Pep Guardiola’s defence ahead of Aymeric Laporte, Nathan Ake and Fernandinho.null
The pair were superb in City’s Carabao Cup semi-final win at Manchester United on Wednesday, with Stones scoring the first goal in a 2-0 win and Dias earning the Man of the Match award.
TalkSPORT host Jason Cundy says he would pick the City defender over Manchester United’s Harry Maguire.
“I’ve been very critical of John Stones over the years, he took unnecessary risks,” Cundy said.
“The partnership with Ruben Dias right now is currently the best in the league.
“If you ask me who I’d rather have right now between Stones and Harry Maguire, I’m having Stones.”
Pep Guardiola’s side had been known for leaking goals last season but this term they have the Premier League’s best defensive record: just 13 goals conceded in 15 matches, and John Stones deserved an enormous amount of credit for that.
Some might say that Stones’ resurgence is entirely down to Dias, others will credit it to Pep. Truthfully, they’ve both played a part, but it’s the Englishman who’s had to go out and prove himself and he’s done exactly that.
