Pep Guardiola has challenged his Manchester City players to step up and prove over the next two months that they have the drive and consistency to become Premier League champions again.
City will look to rebound from dropping points at the weekend when they open a midweek round in the Premier League against West Bromwich Albion.
The Citizens are down in ninth position having already failed to win on six occasions domestically. They have struggled for goals this term and have been less exciting to watch than in previous campaigns.
This game at the Etihad Stadium tonight should be the best moment for City to demonstrate the hunger and appetite required of title winners. West Bromwich Albion have the worst defense in the league so far.
As reported by Jack_Gaughan via Mail Sport, Pep Guardiola has held talks with his City squad focused on the reasons behind their attacking struggles.
Guardiola wants an improvement in the movement of his forwards, believing sharper/more purposeful runs off the ball can unlock their malaise.
‘I know exactly that maybe we miss being more intense in the final third or (to) create more chances,’ he said.
‘I know the reason why, the players know it – we talked about this today. In the Premier League we would love to be higher up but we are not far away, we can get results in a row.’
‘It’s a moment to make a step forward, and say: OK what do we want to do this season? Tomorrow we are going to start to do it.’

Of course you should’ve thought about it earlier this season before you lost any useful points against scousers and spurs !!

I’ve noticed this, our movement isn’t as good as before
— ً (@Raheem7ii) December 14, 2020
Yep, our movements across the whole attacking phase have been so sluggish this season. It’s why Foden and Ferran have probably stood out a bit because there movement has been great

Yup. Against United everyone standing still. Ferran comes on, already running down the line looking to beat Shaw.

absolutely spot on, been saying the same for ages. The damage caused by fast running into the box , cut backs to players in space is the way to go
