Manchester City fans have been left astounded by the class of Ederson’s goalkeeping excellence after the Brazilian’s brilliant performance in Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Arsenal.
City picked up their second win of the season after Raheem Sterling’s first-half goal was enough for Pep Guardiola to get one over his old assistant Mikel Arteta’s.
City were looking to return to winning ways against an Arsenal team that had won three of their opening four Premier League games. The Citizens managed to seize control of the game despite Arsenal’s measured start when Raheem Sterling finished from close range.
Sterling ended up being the match winner at the Etihad Stadium, but the City goalkeeper proved equally as vital to the victory as he made a number of important saves.
He was at his best to deny Bukayo Saka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in quick succession before half-time.
Sloppy defending as Rodri, Bernardo and Cancelo all fail to get a hold of the ball after doing well to win it back. It leads to Tireney storming down the left, playing in Saka whose shot is saved brilliantly by Ederson.
The Brazilian is on hand again moments later to smother Aubameyang as he went through on goal, when an offside flag was raided but may have been overturned by VAR. Had just one simple stop to make in the second half.
They’re the kind of saves that go unnoticed over time, but Ederson is one of the best at those under-the-radar stops at important points in the game. He record his first clean sheet of the campaign as he looks to retain the Premier League Golden Glove.
His form has been somewhat questionable as of late, but the Brazilian should be proud of his performance.
