Manchester City Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that the club is considering alternatives to Kalidou Koulibaly because of Napoli’s valuation for the centre-back.
The Citizens have been trying to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli for much of the transfer window. It’s been a hard fight, with the Serie A club’s president wanting a huge fee and being unrealistic regarding his prospects of getting it.
City are reported to already have personal terms with the player but are refusing to match Aurelio de Laurentiis’ huge asking price for the defender. It is understood City had offered as much as £70m, leaving the two clubs apart in terms of the final fee.
Accoding to The Guardian, the Citizens are targeting Sevilla’s Diego Carlos and Atletico Maldrid’s Jose Giménez as alternatives to Koulibaly if Napoli are not prepared to lower their demands of of about €80m (£73.2m) for the center-back.
Pep Guardiola is an admirer of Giménez, 25, and the 27-year-old Carlos, the former having a £109.8m release clause and the latter one of £68.7m.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Chief and Man City Xtra, City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.
Should’ve gone for upamecano and reguilon— Tracking Rory (@Rorytracker1) September 16, 2020
Upamecano’s release clause is €60 million. Forget about Giménez and Carlos.— Fellah (@Momaverick83) September 16, 2020
Diego Carlos is just a faster Otamendi ffs 😂😂— Sazieh (@EazyIIS) September 16, 2020
Blistering fast….what a joke….Adama Traore took the ball from their half and just when Adama was just about to hit his stride, Diego Carlos had already had a headstart on him &…..Adama destroyed him & finally gave away penalty.— Paramveer Singh (@param44) September 16, 2020
Neither. Gimenez is good, but made of glass. Carlos is just a faster, more rash version of Otamendi. He might do a patch job, but in 2 years we’ll be begging for someone to sign him ’cause he isn’t good enough. Guaranteed.— Pauli Wahlberg (@WalmeriGaming) September 16, 2020
If we don’t manage to get Koulibaly i would not buy any of these defenders. I would stick with Stones and Laporte and wait one year and then buy Upamecano (release clause). I know it’s not the ideal solution but i think its better than to rush and buy one who dont fit in.— lacomps (@lacomps01) September 16, 2020
