Man City Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that Kalidou Koulibaly remains the main target going into the final weeks in the transfer window despite their opening bid for Jules Kounde rejected by Sevilla.
It is no secret Man City need to improve defensively, having failed to replace Vincent Kompany after his departure last summer and with Aymeric Laporte in and out of the squad due to injuries.
The Citizens have been trying to sign Koulibaly for much of the transfer window. It’s been a hard fight, with the Serie A club’s president wanting a huge fee and being unrealistic regarding his prospects of getting it.
It has led City to other targets, with Sevilla ace Kounde the new alternatives if Napoli are not prepared to lower their demands of of about €80m (£73.2m) for the center-back.
The Frenchman has been regarded as one of the better defenders for his age group. He enjoyed a stellar 2019/20 season in La Liga, making 29 appearances as his side comfortably finished in the top four.
AS claims the player himself has agreed to the move should the two parties agree on the fixed payment amounts and objective-related bonuses.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, City’s deal for Koulibaly has not collapsed yet. Talks are still on with Napoli, but there is no agreement.
Romano adds that 21-year-old Jules Koundé is the ‘back-up option’, but Sevilla have turned down an opening bid of around €55/60M.
It remains to be seen whether the English giants can agree a fee for a player thought to be valued by his club in the region of £90m.
The Senegal international played the full 90 minutes as Napoli opened their 2020-21 Serie A campaign with a 2-0 victory away to Parma on Sunday night.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by Man City Xtra and City Chief, City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.
