‘I’ve got an idea of who it might be’ – Sam Lee on Man City’s remaining transfer plans

Manchester City could still make a few more additions to their current squad despite just a matter of days remaining of the summer transfer window.

The Citizens completed the signing of center back Rúben Dias as their third addition of the summer transfer window on Tuesday, with the defender penning a six-year contract after making a £62 million ($79m) move from Portuguese powerhouse Benfica, with veteran Nicolas Otamendi heading in the opposite direction.

The Portuguese becomes Pep Guardiola’s third new addition of the summer following the earlier arrivals of Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake. Pep Guardiola’s side is reportedly not done with their transfer business just yet.

Speaking on The Athletic’s Headline podcast, Sam Lee believes that Guardiola is also on the hunt for a new left-back

He said: “[I’m] pretty sure that they’re still working on a left-back, but it may well be the same situation as with Otamendi, because, I know that Oleksandr Zinchenko has got some offers on the table, and that City will sell him if they get whatever they deem to be the right one.

“Now, [who] knows, in this market especially, what that will actually be, but if they can sell Zinchenko, then – financially and in terms of squad space – it helps them get in another left-back.

“I’ve got an idea of who it might be, but it’s not fully, 100% confirmed yet.

“I do think they’ve sped up their plans, they were looking at getting a left-back in the summer anyway, but because of the element of needing to get rid of Zinchenko and then trying to get somebody in the last week, we can say that they’re definitely still trying.

With their centre-back search finally over, the Blues must weigh up whether Guardiola’s squad needs further strengthening before the window shuts on October 5 after a damaging 5-2 home defeat to Leicester in their second Premier League game of the season.
