City’s need for a centre-half is a priority this summer, after the problems encountered in the wake of Vincent Kompany’s retirement this summer. Despite the £41m capture of Ake from Bournemouth already, defender still remain the priority with Kalidou Koulibaly the main target.
The Citizens have been negotiating with Napoli for several weeks over their asking price, with Aurelio de Laurentiis looking to make at least €90m after turning down €100m last summer.
According to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, City do not have the patience to wait so have already started negotiations with Dayot Upamecano as they seek another central defender and are already in talks to sign the French defender.
There is a clause included in the centre-back’s new contract which allows him to leave for a £54million fee next summer.
