Manchester City will wait for negotiations between Lionel Messi‘s father and agent Jorge Messi and Barcelona to end before deciding on their next move in pursuit of the Argentine.
Messi has told Barcelona he wants to leave and believes he has activated a clause allowing him to leave the club for free. However, Barcelona insist the clause had expired and Messi is still their player.
Jorge Messi arrived in Barcelona for talks with the club as Manchester City continue to be linked with signing the forward.
There has been so much speculation surrounding Messi’s most recent contract, but one thing that seems to be agreed upon across every report is that player and club do not agree.
According to Deportes Cuatro, Jorge Messi said it would be difficult for his son to remain at Barcelona, but he ‘doesn’t know’ about a move to City.
Asked, “Is Messi going to leave Barcelona or what?” Jorge Messi replied: “I don’t know, I don’t know anything,” before responding “difficult” when asked what he thought of the possibility of Messi staying. That was reiterated when he was asked: “How do you see his future at Barcelona?” As he walked away, Messi replied: “Difficult … difficult.”
Jorge Messi was also asked directly about City and whether that was a “good option” for his son, prompting the following exchange:
“I don’t know. There’s nothing yet.”
And as the questions about City continued to rain in, Jorge added: “I haven’t spoken to Pep Guardiola.”
“You didn’t talk to Pep?”
“No. [I didn’t talk] to anyone.”
It certainly speaks volumes that Jorge feels almost certain that his son wants to leave Camo Nou before he enters talks with the Barcelona chiefs that could decide how the whole saga ends.
In reaction to Jorge Messi comment shared on Twitter by City Chief and Man City Xtra, Many City fans have been expressing their thoughts and opinions on this latest update.

It’s the answer that we want… Can’t expect more than that… It’s the best answer that we can get— Sasiy2j (@Sasiy2j) September 2, 2020
The normal answer would be to say no and deny it. So this is good news— Catinho (@MagicEighttBall) September 2, 2020
He’s hardly going to say “yeah we’ve spoke with Pep, City have launched an offer and we’ve agreed personal terms”— Kalidou Messi (@THEK1NGPIN) September 2, 2020
Obviously his not gonna be like . . . Yeah yeah his going to Man City— AL sho (@shohan110) September 2, 2020
Obviously he’s gonna deny it he can’t say anything since messi contract legal issues have not been solved and he hasn’t met with bartomeu yet, that would infuriate the club that they were making moves for a long time behind their backs,so he has to deny it.— Yves (@J_Yves2) September 2, 2020
Jorge Messi would not leak information even if there was a gun to his head, what a man! Bring him to the poker table with them sort of balls— FootballRazz (@FootballRazz) September 2, 2020
He can’t say anything before a move is agreed by Barcelona— Messi (@MCFCmaya) September 2, 2020
Why is anyone surprised? Messi haven’t came in open and said anything to the situation? Why do you expect his dad to do so??— Gaz | MCFC ’05 💙💙 (@Gaz71906707) September 2, 2020
