Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that Inter Milan’s Argentina striker Lautaro Martinez, 22, have been earmarked as a potential long-term replacement for compatriot Sergio Aguero, 32.
The plan post-Agüero has to be agreed as he will be 33 years old when his deal expires. The challenge of replacing Sergio Agüero is certainly one of the problem areas of the Man City squad. The Argentine striker has been nothing short of sensational at the Etihad.
City’s record goal scorer will enter the final year of his contract this summer and there hasn’t been any indication that he will pen fresh terms at the Etihad Stadium.
According to Skysport, the Citizens see Martinez, who has scored 18 goals in 39 games for Inter this season, as a potential long-term successor to his compatriot Aguero and will be better placed than Barcelona to pay the striker’s £98.5m release clause.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by Man City Xtra, Manchester City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions
OMG please sign him!!— CityBlue (@uzirugby) July 15, 2020
I truly would like us to sign him.— Jacob, LL.M. (@Achillaes) July 15, 2020
Rather Haaland— Cameron (@KDB_Mcfc17) July 15, 2020
I’d prefer haaland— 🕴🏿 🎲 卂乃卂ㄚㄖㄩ尺爪乇 🎗©️ (@yourme4sheezy) July 16, 2020
“He would suit Guardiola’s style perfectly but Haaland would get 50 goals a season at City, Martinez won’t.”, claimed one fan.
while another tweeted, “Haaland would do Ronaldo numbers with the amount of chances we create”
Another tweet said: “He’s a brilliant striker would love to see him at the Etihad… but with Jesus, Aguero Sterling and more I doubt it!”.
Could Lautaro Martinez be the ‘new Sergio Aguero’?
It’s interesting to see that he’s being touted as a possible replacement for Sergio Aguero, but it also makes sense as the 22-year-old has much potential still to be unlocked. The Argentine marksman is enjoying a prolific campaign with Inter Milan having managed 18 goals in 39 games under Antonio Conte this season.
