Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays a report that Manchester City are ready to pay the £87million release clause in Ruben Dias’ Benfica contract.
The 22-year-old has continued to establish himself as a key figure for the Portuguese giants this season, making 39 appearances across all competitions while chipping in with three goals and two assists to show an ability to make an impact at the opposite end of the pitch too
According to a report in the Evening Standard, Pep Guardiola has prioritised signing a centre-back this summer and Dias has emerged as the ideal candidate for the Catalan manager.
The 23-year-old Dias is top of Pep Guardiola’s transfer list, according to the report, but Benfica are reluctant to sell the defender despite interest from several clubs including City.
The 22-year-old has a long-term contract until the summer of 2024 at the Portuguese side, and his current deal reportedly includes an enormous £87million (100million euros) release clause.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Chief, Man City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.
Our record of defenders from the Portuguese league ain’t great— B (@MCFC97x) June 22, 2020
Same price as Maguire and he’s a better defender— Fabián (@RuizFabiann) June 22, 2020
Still cheaper than Maguire. Let’s get him— That Guy With The Sideburns🎗 (@TGWTS1) June 22, 2020
“with 90M might as well get Haaland or Sancho”, claimed one fan.
while another asked, “Is he any good? Never seen him play?”
Another tweet said:”So we said £75m was too much for Van Dijk but £90m is right for Dias who isn’t premier league proven, only 6’1 and not quick enough for a modern day cb”
Another fan tweeted: “Everyone seems to be against this. I’m not. He is apparently good. I’ve watched like 5 games he has played and he has been good. Best of all. Harry Maguire isnt the most expensive defender”
If he’s as good as people say get him in. If he’s as good as Laporte then 90m is nothing. Plus if we get an injury to Laporte Atleast we got another quality CB. All good champions have a good defensive partnership.
