Manchester City have had a relatively quiet transfer deadline day, with only a few signings and departures. The club welcomed the return of Ilkay Gundogan, which excited fans, but this could mean limited playing time for Matheus Nunes, who joined City last year. Nunes has struggled to secure a starting position and with Gundogan’s return, his chances are even slimmer. Despite speculation linking Nunes to a move to Atletico Madrid, he appears determined to stay and fight for his place, reminiscent of Kalvin Phillips’ decision which did not work out well.
Nunes may need to reconsider his stance and explore potential exit opportunities to secure more playing time. With the competition in midfield increasing at City, including the likes of Gundogan and Rico Lewis, Nunes could find it challenging to earn minutes on the pitch. While Pep Guardiola may not force Nunes out, exploring other options could be beneficial for the player’s career development, especially as he aims to establish himself at a top club like Manchester City.
